The fuss over the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate for the next general election is because the public has lost confidence in the current administration, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.
Tuan Ibrahim said the public was now looking for new leaders.
“And God willing, Perikatan Nasional will helm the next government,” he said when officiating the PAS Youth muktamar here today.
Tuan Ibrahim said the public had been asking the party who would be the next prime minister and who was PAS’s choice.
“Do you know why they are asking us? It’s because they have lost confidence in the current crop of ministers and trust in the prime minister,” he said.
His comments follow the nomination by its PN ally, Bersatu, of party president Muhyiddin Yassin as its prime ministerial candidate at its general assembly last weekend.
PN election director Sanusi Nor has warned, however, against being overly enthusiastic regarding key political decisions for the coalition.
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad also said his party was in no hurry to name anyone as its “poster boy” as its priority was to ensure victory for PN in the next nationwide polls so it can form the federal government.
“PAS is not engrossed with the prime minister’s post. In the party, we have never discussed wanting to put forward a prime minister candidate,” he was quoted as saying.
