IPOH, Sept 12 (Bernama) — The Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) TechPark integrated industrial hub in Tanjong Malim, with a gross development value (GDV) of RM3.5 billion, is expected to create about 20,000 jobs across various skill levels.
KLK executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian said the project, spanning 607 hectares, will involve industrial development to be carried out in phases over the next 10 years, beginning this year.
The first phase will see BYD (an automotive manufacturer) as the anchor investor, with major infrastructure works targeted for completion by the end of 2026, while Phase 2 will feature a dedicated vendor park for players in the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
“Strategically located near the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), KLK TechPark offers industrial lots and ready-built factories supported by comprehensive basic infrastructure,” he said after the groundbreaking ceremony of the KLK TechPark today.
Also present were Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang and Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee.
Meanwhile, Saarani said the development of KLK TechPark supports AHTV’s aspiration to make Tanjong Malim a global hub for the automotive and high-tech sectors.
“It is centred on new energy vehicles and supported by a comprehensive ecosystem covering manufacturing, research and development (R&D), supply chain and talent development.
“I believe there will be more development projects to follow in Tanjong Malim. Among them, we are working on establishing the National Automotive Testing Centre (NATC) in Sungkai, as it will attract further investments to the area,” he said.
