GOF seizes RM2.9mil worth of timber in Kelantan raid

PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized various types of timber worth RM2.9 million in a raid on a sawmill in the Apam Industrial Area on Wednesday.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the 1.30pm raid was carried out by personnel from the Ninth Battalion during Op Taring Wawasan .

“Checks revealed that the factory owner had failed to update documents related to the transfer of logs into the premises.

“A total of 1,590 logs of various sizes and species, 1,900 processed timber pieces, several wood-processing machines and two heavy machinery units were sealed for investigation,” he said.

He said that all the seized items were handed over to the Forestry Department.

The case is being investigated under Section 69(1) of the National Forestry Act 1984.

Separately, Ros Azhan said GOF personnel arrested three undocumented migrants during an operation at Jalan Jeti Pulau Besar in Tumpat yesterday.

He said a car used to transport the foreigners was also seized in the 5.20am operation.

“The GOF personnel stopped the suspected vehicle when it passed the area but the driver and another man, both believed to be tekong darat (ground coordinator), fled on foot.

“Further checks on the vehicle found three Myanmar men who were believed to have been smuggled into the country through an illegal jetty,” he said.

All the suspects were handed over to the Tumpat district police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
