Women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah kept their hopes of defending the Hong Kong Open title alive after cruising into the semi-finals with an easy win over a fellow Malaysian pair today.
The world No 2 pair took just 31 minutes to defeat their compatriots Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing 21-12, 21-15 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, in what was their first ever encounter.
Pearly-Thinaah, who won the silver medal at the recent World Championships, will meet Paris Olympics champions Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian of China in the semi-final.
Although the Chinese pair are ranked lower than Pearly-Thinaah at world No 8, they have always been difficult opponents.
Pearly-Thinaah are in the hunt for a second title this year after making it to five finals so far but only winning the Thailand Open in May.
