PETALING JAYA:

Top mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei say their World Championship victory in Paris last week, and the rewards that have followed, will not make them complacent.

The world No 3 duo, who have received a combined total of RM330,000 from various parties after being crowned world champions in the French capital, said their focus remains on achieving greater milestones in the future.

“For us, I don’t think anything has changed because we are still badminton players, and we are still athletes,” said Tang Jie in an Utusan Malaysia report.

“We want to achieve more for our country and for ourselves as well.”

Tang Jie was speaking after an incentive presentation ceremony by an electronics retailer at the Badminton Academy of Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.

Ee Wei, meanwhile, revealed that all her cash rewards had been handed over to her parents for safekeeping.

The pair received a combined total of RM125,000 in incentives from the sponsor at the event – Tang Jie took home RM100,000 in cash while Ee Wei received electronic products worth RM25,000.

Tang Jie has collected a total of RM190,000 in rewards following the victory in Paris while Ee Wei has received RM140,000.

The sum includes RM40,000 for each of them under the National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam), RM25,000 from a snack food company, and RM25,000 from an automotive accessories company.

The Melaka-born Ee Wei also received RM50,000 from the state government.
