PETALING JAYA: The authorities will not tolerate those who incited violence in the recent Kampung Sungai Baru incident, said Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister stated that action would be taken against those who misuse the right to assemble.
He also condemned the attack on Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Suzilme Affendy Sulaiman as despicable, uncivilised and completely unacceptable.
“There is no compromise against those who abuse the right to assemble for political interests, inciting chaos, or sowing hatred through fake information.
“The safety of the people, national security, and integrity of the authorities are priorities that must be defended,” said Saifuddin Nasution in a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 11).
Earlier, the attack on ACP Suzilme Affendy was also condemned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said that the right to assemble should not be abused for political interests.
According to KL Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus, several individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.
On Thursday, ACP SSuzilme Affendy sustained a head injury believed to be caused by a rock thrown by an unidentified individual while authorities conducted a court-ordered operation to disconnect the electricity supply and demolish several homes in the Kampung Sungai Baru, Kampung Baru area.
The eviction follows years of dispute over a redevelopment project first proposed in 2016 to replace the village’s Selangor Development Corporation flats and terrace houses with a high-rise mixed development. While most flat dwellers agreed to the plan, several terrace house owners opposed it, leading to delays.
The developer eventually invoked the Land Acquisition Act 1960 to acquire the land.
