GEORGE TOWN: Anglers have been warned to stop fishing beneath the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, also known as the second Penang Bridge, as the area has been declared strictly off-limits.
Bridge operator Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) said the ban has been enforced to prevent risks that could lead to tragedy.
“Fishing under the bridge is strictly prohibited as the area has been classified as a restricted zone. This regulation was put in place to protect everyone from safety hazards that could result in accidents,” JKSB said in a statement.
The company cited potential dangers such as anglers falling, drowning due to strong currents, sustaining serious injuries, or being involved in unforeseen accidents.
It added the restriction also ensures the safety of the bridge structure, its users, and enforcement personnel.
“For the sake of everyone’s safety, prioritise precaution and comply with the law.
Do not ever take risks that could cost lives simply for the sake of a hobby in this restricted area,” it stressed.
