KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus today confirmed that several people have been arrested following tense enforcement operations in Kampung Sungai Baru here, during which a senior officer sustained a head injury.
Condemning the assault, Fadil said the attack on Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman was believed to have been provoked by parties seeking to exploit the ongoing standoff between residents and enforcement officers.
“I am extremely upset about this. It should not have happened in such a situation.
“For those who seek to exploit the situation, I will go against them all out and take firm action against anyone who disrupts public order.
“His (Sulizmie’s) injuries are being investigated and there have been several arrests,” he said.
Fadil did not disclose details of the arrests.
He stressed that police would remain firm until the operation was completed, underscoring the Royal Malaysian Police’s duty to uphold the law and maintain peace and order.
The incident occurred as authorities carried out a court-ordered operation to cut electricity supply and evict several homes — 26 individual lots comprising 37 terrace houses — in the area earmarked for redevelopment.
Photographs of Sulizmie’s head injury went viral on social media, prompting concern and condemnation from the public.
