Two killed as pickup overturns, lands in ditch on Pan Borneo Highway

KUCHING: Two people were killed after their vehicle overturned and landed in a ditch along the Pan Borneo Highway on the Sibu-Bintulu-Selangau route yesterday.

The victims, Rolland Atok Eleh, 37, and an elderly woman, Bayan Tubak, 60, were trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, Remington Atok, 35, was injured in the 6.30pm incident.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said they received information about the incident at 6.39pm.

A team from the Tatau Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Selangau Fire and Rescue Station, was dispatched to the location.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that a single-vehicle accident involving a pickup truck had occurred, with the vehicle crashing and overturning into a ditch.

“There were three victims involved in the accident, with one managing to exit the vehicle before the fire brigade arrived, while the other two remained inside,” he said.

He said firefighters pulled out the two victims who were trapped inside the overturned vehicle.

“Paramedics confirmed that both victims had died, and the bodies were handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
