KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, was today briefed on the latest report regarding the recent series of earthquakes that struck the Segamat district.
The briefing was delivered by Segamat District Officer Mohd Ezzuddin Sanusi, who is also the District Disaster Management Committee chairman.
According to a Facebook post by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, His Majesty arrived in Segamat earlier this morning.
Also present at the briefing were Johor Mineral and Geoscience Department director Noorazhar Ngatimin, Johor Meteorological Department director Nor Adawiah Abdullah, and Segamat Public Works Department (PWD) District Engineer Muhammad Yusri Zainal.
It was reported that Johor experienced several weak earthquakes between Aug 24 and Sept 3.
On Sept 8, the Works Ministry estimated that at least RM550,000 would be needed to repair 15 government buildings that sustained minor damage following the series of weak earthquakes in the district.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan had said that the affected buildings include five schools, the Segamat district police quarters, Segamat Hospital, Bandar Putra Health Clinic, Segamat Community College, the District Kadi Office, and several other government quarters.
