KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — The elevation of Malaysia-Vietnam ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in November 2024 is set to catalyse deeper economic, cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City in a statement said Consul General Firdauz Othman underscored the milestone during Malaysia’s 68th National Day and 62nd Malaysia Day celebration in the city on Tuesday.
Firdauz highlighted the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Vietnam, noting that both countries continue to enjoy robust economic and people-to-people ties.
In 2024, bilateral trade reached US$18.14 billion, with over 700 Malaysian projects registered in Vietnam.
Tourism and education remain key pillars of collaboration, with the number of Vietnamese students in Malaysia surging over 340 per cent between 2022 and 2024.
Firdauz also stressed Malaysia’s role as Asean Chair in 2025, championing the theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability” to advance integration, digital transformation, and collective responses to global challenges.
The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Loc Ha, alongside members of the diplomatic corps, the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia. — Bernama
