iPhone 17 is one of the new products that Apple has revealed at its Awe Dropping launch event earlier today. From the outside, things may look almost identical to its predecessor, but there’s more to it than meets the eye…literally.
iPhone 17 received updated display

This is because one of the main upgrades that the iPhone 17 brings to the table is a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display. Not only that, it is also much brighter with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and Apple also claimed that the screen is 33% less reflective than before.
The iPhone 17 also features the 120Hz ProMotion dynamic refresh rate technology and Always-On display. The screen is also protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claimed to be 3x more scratch-resistant than its predecessor.
A19 processor

New iPhones usually include improvements in performance, and for iPhone 17, this is being delivered through the new A19 processor. The Cupertino outfit pointed out that the 6-core CPU in the A19 is around 1.5x faster than the A15 Bionic, while its 5-core GPU is also more than 2x faster than the GPU in that chip, which was introduced with iPhone 13.
The processor also carries an updated display engine, ISP, and Apple Neural Engine, while Apple has also added Neural Accelerators into each GPU core to improve on-device processing for generative AI models. As per iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 also comes with Apple N1 wireless networking chip that provides Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support for the device.
New Fusion ultra-wide camera

Another section of the iPhone 17 that one may have overlooked is its rear camera because the module still features the stacked design that was used in iPhone 16. While Apple has also carried over the 48MP Fusion main camera to the new model, it has been paired with a new 48MP Fusion wide camera instead of the 12MP 2x telephoto camera as per the iPhone 16.
Having a higher resolution camera may help users capture more details for their wide-angle shots and macro photography. There are also improvements made on Photographic Styles in terms of a better understanding of skin tones.
Center Stage selfie camera

All of the new 2025 iPhone models have received the new Centre Stage selfie camera, and things are no different with the iPhone 17. Equipped with an 18MP square-shaped image sensor, it provides a rather wide field of view.
Hence, users don’t have to rotate their camera if they want to take a group selfie. With the help of AI, Center Stage can also choose the best field of view when it detects a group selfie.
The new Centre Stage camera is also capable of capturing 4K HDR video, complete with stabilisation enhancements. There is also a feature called Dual Capture that allows users to record videos using the front and rear cameras simultaneously.
Base model now has 256GB storage

With the introduction of the iPhone Air, the Plus variant is no longer being offered under the iPhone 17 family. Furthermore, the storage option for iPhone 17 starts at 256GB instead of 128GB.
So, we suppose that could be the reason why ithe Phone 17 line-up has been trimmed down to just two options:
- iPhone 17 256GB: RM3,999
- iPhone 17 512GB: RM4,999
There are five colourways available for the iPhone 17, including Lavendar, Sage, Misty Blue, White, and Black. For peace of mind, you can obtain AppleCare+ coverage for the iPhone 1,7 which costs RM749 regardless of the storage option.
