‘Ask Azmin’: Wee sidesteps queries on informal PN meeting

MCA president Wee Ka Siong today sidestepped questions on an informal meeting between his party, and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Asked to comment on the revelation by PN secretary-general Azmin Ali, Wee told reporters: “Ask him. Why ask me? He is the one who said it… If he wants to talk, let him talk.”

It was reported that PN had held informal discussions with MCA and , both component parties of the ruling Barisan Nasional ().

Azmin said the two parties acknowledged that the policies introduced under the former PN government led by Yassin were fair and inclusive.

MCA and MIC are long-time components of the -led , a key partner in Prime Minister Ibrahim’s unity government.

In June, Wee said the party’s 191 divisions would discuss its future amid discontent over its lack of influence in the government, and bring their proposals to the annual general meeting in October.

MIC also said it was prepared to engage in discussions with any political party to ensure its survival and better serve the Indian community.

However, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently said that MCA and MIC’s top leaders had not discussed leaving the coalition with him.

Despite this, MIC Youth’s deputy chief K Kesavan attended Bersatu Youth’s annual general assembly over the weekend as the wing’s representative.
