TRUE

Kuala Terengganu deputy police chief Supt Wan Mohd Zaki Wan Ismail said the incident occurred when two Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) personnel from the Kuala Terengganu Police Headquarters spotted a grey Proton Wira car being driven in a suspicious manner at about 6.30pm on Monday (Sept 8).

He said police arrested the 16-year-old boy for driving without a licence and ramming a patrol car when instructed to stop during an incident along Jalan Bandar Baru.

Supt Wan Mohd Zaki said they instructed the driver to stop, but the suspect sped off, with police in hot pursuit.

“The suspect not only ignored our calls to stop, but he also drove dangerously, including ramming the patrol car. For safety reasons, the officers had to pull out an HK MP5 firearm as a stern warning, which ultimately succeeded in making the suspect stop,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 10).

Supt Wan Mohd Zaki said that, upon inspection, they found that the suspect was a 16-year-old school student and had driven his brother’s car without permission.

“The suspect was issued a summons for driving without a licence. He was also given a stern warning and advice not to repeat the offence before being freed,” he said, adding that they also contacted the boy’s parents.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties.

On Tuesday (Sept 9), a 24-second video of the incident went viral.
