
The country’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, suffered a shock first round exit at the Hong Kong Open today.
The top seeds fell 13-21, 13-21 to the English duo of Ben Lane-Sean Vendy in just 28 minutes, their second consecutive loss to the world No 15 pair after the Arctic Open 2024.
Lane and Vendy are coached by former national mixed doubles shuttler Tan Kian Meng.
Another national doubles pair, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, was also sent packing after losing 24-22, 20-22, 17-21 to Taiwan’s Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan.
National mixed doubles pair Loo Bing Kun-Go Pei Kee are also out of the tournament after losing 21-14, 21-16 to Japan’s Olympic medallists Yuta Watanabe-Misaki Matsutomo in the qualifying round.
In the women’s singles, Goh Jin Wei crashed out in qualifying after losing 21-17, 14-21, 14-21 to Denmark’s Amalie Schulz.
Independent men’s doubles pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong advanced to the main draw after beating Canada’s Jonathan Lai-Nyl Yakura 21-17, 21-17 in 37 minutes.
They will face China‘s world No 16 pair Huang Di-Liu Yang in the first round.
