Malaysians residing in, or travelling to, Nepal have been advised to remain vigilant following the widespread protests that erupted on Monday.
The foreign ministry, in an advisory, urged Malaysians to follow safety guidance issued by local authorities, and stay informed through official channels.
The ministry confirmed that so far, no Malaysians have been reported to be affected by, or involved in, the protests.
Violence escalated in Kathmandu following widespread protests over the government’s social media ban, leaving at least 19 dead.
“The ministry, through the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu, remains in close contact with the local authorities in Nepal and is actively monitoring the situation,” the foreign ministry said.
Those who have not registered their presence in the country are strongly encouraged to do so through E-Konsular (https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my) to ensure timely support and communication, it added.
For consular assistance, visit the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu at Bakhundole-3, Lalitpur, Nepal, call +977-1-5445680 or email [email protected].
