HONG KONG: Malaysian superstar Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has paid tribute to her dear friend, the iconic Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, who recently passed away.
In an Instagram post featuring photos of the two of them over the years, Yeoh wrote: “Deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary Giorgio Armani, a true visionary but so much more to me. My heartfelt condolences to his family, to Roberta, and all who loved and cherished him.”
Armani, 91, died on Sept 4. The highly respected icon founded his own fashion house and became one of the most recognisable names and faces in the global fashion industry.
In the late 1970s, Armani put Italian ready-to-wear style on the international fashion map, dressing the rich and famous in classic tailored styles, super-soft fabrics, and muted tones.
His black-tie outfits and glittering evening gowns often stole the show on red carpets.
At the time of his death, Armani had built an empire worth over US$10 billion (RM42.06 billion), which also included accessories, home furnishings, perfumes, cosmetics, and even chocolates.
