KUALA LUMPUR: Almost 2,100 traffic offenders here have been issued advocacy notices from the police for various minor offences in a law compliance advocacy operation.

Kuala Lumpur police officer Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operation, codenamed Ops PUU, was conducted by its KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.

“As of Sept 8, a total of 2,077 traffic advocacy notices, along with 24 Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) notices and 26 notices from the Road Transport department (JPJ) were issued.

“Some 2,784 vehicles were inspected while four vehicles were towed,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 9).

He said the operation was to raise awareness among road users on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

“The campaign, which began on Sept 6, is being conducted across several major roads in the city,” he said.

He added that unlike full enforcement exercises, Ops PUU focus is on educating motorists by issuing advocacy notices instead of summonses for minor traffic offences.

He said the advocacy phase would continue until a date to be determined later, after which full enforcement, including issuing summonses, would be carried out.

Comm Fadil also said Ops Didik, an outreach programme targeting primary and secondary school students who ride motorcycles or drive vehicles, was still in progress.

“This aims to instil traffic awareness and road safety practices among the youth,” he said.
