Govt steps up push for green buildings, smart cities, and ESG in property sector

: The government will intensify efforts to promote green buildings, smart cities, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) adoption in Malaysia’s property and facility management sectors, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Speaking at the RICS-MIPFM International Property Conference 2025, Nga said his ministry is working on policies to support sustainable urban development and strengthen regulatory frameworks.

“Our focus is on fostering a conducive environment for the growth and professionalisation of the facility and property management sectors,” he said.

“This includes advancing affordable housing, quality standards, and long-term sustainability.”

Nga also noted the need to address challenges such as ageing infrastructure, climate change and digital disruption, highlighting resilience planning, green financing, and the use of AI, IoT and Big Data as key areas moving forward.

He added that insights shared by industry experts at the conference will help inform government policymaking in the housing and built environment sector.

The two-day conference, jointly organised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM), brought together local and international experts to discuss themes under “Built Environment and Asset Lifecycle.”
