PM Anwar To Officiate 19th AMMTC In Melaka Today


MELAKA, Sept 9 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim is set to officiate the opening ceremony of the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) here today, marking the start of high-level discussions to strengthen regional cooperation against cross-border crime.

The Prime Minister is expected to deliver his opening address at 4.30 pm, followed by remarks from ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is the Chair of AMMTC this year.

The meeting held at a hotel, here will be attended by AMMTC leaders and delegation from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste as well as dialogue partners , Japan and .

Today’s agenda will involve a series of preparatory meetings involving ASEAN member state senior officials and consultations with dialogue partners to fine-tune discussion points ahead of the plenary session.

On Sept 4, Saifuddin Nasution described the AMMTC as more than just a series of meetings but a strategic platform that brings together ministers to discuss, coordinate and strengthen regional cooperation in combating increasingly complex cross-border criminal activities.

Melaka has become the regional focal point this week as ASEAN ministers and senior officials responsible for security and law enforcement gather from Sept 8 to 12 for the 19th AMMTC and its related meetings.

The five-day programme focuses on enhancing regional cooperation to tackle various transboundary crime threats.

The 19th AMMTC and related meetings are being held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, reflecting the country’s commitment to building a safer and more prosperous ASEAN community.
