QuickCheck: Did cocoa powder once fall like snow in the town of Olten, Switzerland?

WHETHER swirled into ice cream or drizzled over pancakes, chocolate is a sweet delight that can be found everywhere.

Chocolate is actually made from fermented, roasted, and ground seeds of the cacao tree (Theobroma cacao), which are combined with sugar, milk, or other ingredients to produce various types of chocolates.

It was said that a town in Switzerland once experienced cocoa powder falling from the sky like snow.

Did this really happen?

TRUE

In 2020, the town of Olten in Switzerland experienced an unusual phenomenon: chocolate powder falling from the sky.

The incident was caused by a fault in the cooling ventilation system for a line producing roasted cocoa nibs at a chocolate factory. Strong winds in Olten lifted the cocoa powder, dispersing a fine layer of chocolate dust around the area surrounding the factory.

The chocolate company states that the particles were completely harmless to both people and the environment.
