Petronas says operations at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak, remain unaffected following the National Security Council’s (MKN) announcement of a potential security threat.
The national oil company said it is working closely with the authorities to assess and address the situation, stressing that safety remains its top priority.
“At present, there has been no impact on our operations and no disruptions to our supply,” it said in a statement tonight.
“The safety and well-being of our employees, contractors and our surrounding communities continue to be our highest priority.”
The government ordered an immediate tightening of security measures at the LNG facilities in Bintulu today following reports of a potential security threat.
Petronas, through its subsidiary Malaysia LNG (MLNG), operates the Bintulu LNG complex, which is ranked among the largest LNG facilities in the world at a single location.
The site houses nine liquefaction plants spread over 111.7ha, an area comparable to more than 200 football fields.
Its production capacity stands at about 29.3 million to 30 million metric tonnes a year.
