PKR Youth has lodged a report urging police to take firm action against individuals accused of spreading seditious remarks and false claims on social media, including threats against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Its legal bureau chief, Khairul Naim Rafidi, said the report also serves as a reminder and warning to the public not to misuse social media to make threats against national leaders.
“Taking stern action against these individuals is crucial in educating the public.
“In the name of public interest, even as we engage in politics and online communications, we must uphold proper conduct and etiquette,” he told a press conference after filing the report at the Shah Alam police headquarters today.
He said the investigations could be carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
PKR Youth’s mobilisation bureau chief, Bariqul Zaman, said that despite the arrests of two suspects, a thorough investigation must still be carried out.
The duo, who were arrested yesterday, are suspected of spreading seditious statements and false allegations on social media, including criminal threats against Anwar.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the first case involved a TikTok account under the name “Mohd Soie”, which posted content with seditious elements and insults against the government.
He said the second case involved comments on the Facebook account “Md Johan Ngadin,” which carried threats against the prime minister.
Selangor PKR Youth deputy chief Shahrul Adnan also filed a report at the same police district headquarters over claims that the Selangor government had decided to hand over land to a Chinese vernacular school.
He said the allegation was made through the Facebook page “Gerakan Pengundi Sedar,” which also accused the state government of recognising the Unified Examination Certificate.
