: Malaysia is reaffirming its commitment to sustainable energy transition through the organisation of the seven-day Nuclear Leaders for Energy Transition (NLET) 2025 programme, which begins today.

The Malaysian Nuclear Agency (Nuklear Malaysia), in a statement today, said NLET 2025 brought together 25 participants from 17 countries, comprising policymakers, engineers and researchers nominated by their respective governments.

The programme features a series of lectures by experts from the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, Nuklear Malaysia, the Department of Atomic Energy Malaysia (ATOM Malaysia), MyPOWER Corporation, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) and the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme.

“Among the key elements of NLET 2025 is a two-day policy integration project, where participants will develop energy transition policy proposals based on their respective country’s landscape and needs.

“Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the country’s nuclear research reactor, solar power plants, coal and natural gas-fired power plants, and radioactive waste management facilities,” the statement said.

Nuklear Malaysia said the organisation of NLET 2025 strengthened Malaysia’s regional role in low-carbon energy development and in the adoption of safe and responsible nuclear technology policies.

“This effort reflects the country’s continued determination to support the global goal of Net Zero Emission by 2050.

“Nuclear energy is recognised as one of the low-carbon technology options that has the potential to support the global energy transition,” according to the statement.

As one of the IAEA Regional Training Centres (RTCs) in the field of nuclear safety and security, Malaysia is committed to expanding international cooperation networks and strengthening the capacity of skilled personnel in this field.

“NLET 2025 is expected to be a catalyst for policy development, professional networking and implementation of more sustainable and inclusive new energy technologies, thus strengthening Malaysia’s position as a leader in the global energy transition,” said the statement.

NLET 2025 is organised by Nuklear Malaysia under the framework of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

MTCP is an initiative of the Foreign Ministry that reflects Malaysia’s commitment to South-South Cooperation and knowledge sharing with other developing countries.

Since its establishment in 1980, MTCP has benefitted more than 38,000 participants from 144 countries in areas such as governance, science, technology and sustainable development.
