: Malaysia has set up a National Historians Council to strengthen the accuracy of historical facts in public discourse and the education system, says Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

The National Unity Minister said this council will oversee research, sources, writing, publications, education and advocacy related to the nation’s history.

The move is also important to help preserve the country’s stability, peace, harmony and unity, he added.

“At the same time, the council will also play a role in ensuring that the discoveries and contributions of various parties in the history and development of the nation are properly documented,” he said at the launch of the council here on Monday (Sept 8).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim launched the council.

Membership in the council is for two years, with the first group’s tenure from Aug 1 this year to July 31, 2027.

The council will comprise 10 historians, two archaeologists, two anthropologists and sociologists, as well as three representatives from the National Unity, Higher Education, and Education Ministries.
