Gasly to start from Monza pit lane after engine change


MONZA: French driver Pierre Gasly, who had qualified on the last row of the grid for today’s Italian Grand Prix, will start the race from the pit lane, his Alpine team said.

“Pierre will start today’s Italian Grand Prix from the Pit Lane after the team took his car out from parc ferme conditions” to fit a a new power unit, the team announced on social media.

Gasly has struggled for speed at Monza, finishing 19th out of 20 qualifiers.

Another Frenchman, Isack Hadjar, was earlier relegated to the pit lane after his Racing Bulls team changed his engine. He had qualified 16th.

Far ahead of them, four-time defending champion Max Verstappen, in a Red Bull, will start from pole position ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, who is second in the driver standings.

Championship leader Oscar Piastri, also in a McLaren, is third on the grid. – AFP
