SHAH ALAM: The scuffle that broke out at Bersatu’s annual general assembly marred what was supposed to be a monumental moment for the party’s Srikandi wing, says Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
The Bersatu Srikandi chief said it was amidst the scuffle when party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the formation of a committee to oversee the involvement and empowering of women in Bersatu.
She described the episode as extremely disappointing, causing her to leave the hall out of shock.
“We proposed this to the president previously and were extremely happy with the developments. But it then turned sour due to the chaos. It was supposed to be a big moment for us,” she said when winding up debates at the party’s annual general assembly on Sunday (Sept 7).
Mas Ermieyati said what happened should serve as a lesson for delegates.
“There were youths looking from afar, children peeking from behind doors and watching us fight. They were judging us, especially since we are adults.
“Our enemies are not among us but those from outside,” she said.
The scuffle broke out as Muhyiddin was addressing allegations to oust him.
A delegate began shouting “it’s not true Tan Sri”, as Muhyiddin was speaking.
Security personnel attempted to calm the delegate down but a scuffle broke out shortly after.
Some delegates began standing on chairs and shouted while others attempted to block the press from getting footage of the incident.
As this was happening, some delegates began shouting “long live Tan Sri”, while others staged a walkout of the hall.
Prior to the AGM, there was talk of statutory declarations from division leaders calling for Muhyiddin to step down as the president.
