KUCHING: A government retiree drove more than 200km from Simanggang in Sri Aman to Kuching to attend the Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) Segulai Sejalai 2025.

Suhami Abu Kasim, 63, said he had only watched the popular carnival on television and read about it in newspapers but had never been able to attend because it was always held in Kuching.

“I’ve always watched Jom Heboh (KJH) on television, but never had the chance to attend because it was held in Kuching.

“This time, I didn’t miss the opportunity to come,” he said when met at the venue of KJH at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya here.

Suhami, who retired from the Health Ministry eight years ago, said he arrived in Kuching on Friday with his wife, Fatimah Salam, and their two children.

He added that their trip coincided with his child’s participation in a pétanque tournament in Santubong.

“While supporting my child, we could also go sightseeing, and when I found out Jom Heboh was happening, it made us even more excited,” he said.

The family stopped by Dataran Perayaan to see the exhibitions, activities, and various stalls.

They also visited the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) booth, where Suhami and his children enjoyed interactive games.

“It’s really lively… there’s everything here, from food and exhibitions to local products and stage entertainment,” he said.

KJH Segulai Sejalai 2025, organised by Media Prima Bhd (MPB), continues to attract an overwhelming response from people from all walks of life, serving as both entertainment and a platform to promote local products and foster family spirit.
