KUALA LUMPUR: Andre Onana looks set to pack his gloves and head for the Turkish Super Lig, and you’d forgive Manchester United fans for not exactly chaining themselves to the gates of Old Trafford in protest.
The £47million goalkeeper, 29, has spent the opening weeks of the Premier League season parked on the bench while Ruben Amorim hands the gloves to Altay Bayindir.
Now, a loan move to Trabzonspor has been lined up, with a verbal agreement said to be in place.
Onana still has the final word, though few will be pleading with him to stay.
Since his 2023 arrival from Inter Milan, the Cameroon international has delivered a catalogue of blunders, conceding 150 goals in just 102 appearances.
Onana was only trusted in goal for the Red Devils’ disastrous League Cup exit to League Two club Grimsby.
His potential departure comes hot on the heels of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens arriving from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m on deadline day, joining Bayindir and Tom Heaton in an increasingly crowded department.
Onana insists he’s still weighing up his options – but for plenty inside Old Trafford, the decision already looks long overdue.
