PETALING JAYA:

Nearly RM642 million has been spent under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) one-off cash aid initiative in its first week of implementation, says the finance ministry.

The ministry said more than 10 million Malaysians have used the RM100 cash aid to buy essential goods as of 10.30pm yesterday.

The total amount of transactions during the seven-day period from Aug 31 was RM641.9 million, Bernama reported it as saying in a statement.

The ministry said yesterday’s sales reached RM100 million, benefiting 1.7 million recipients.

It said the transaction success rate had improved to 99.9% compared with 99% the previous day.

“Efforts to enhance and expand the system’s processing capacity over the past six days have contributed to the system’s stability, which was achieved today,” it said.

The cash aid, distributed through the MyKad, benefits 22 million citizens with a total allocation of RM2 billion.

This aid is available to all citizens aged 18 and above, regardless of their income category, and may be redeemed at selected outlets using their MyKad.
