KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin says that his political future should be measured by his capacity to serve as many Malaysians as possible, rather than being linked to any specific political party.
Khairy, who is also a former Health Minister, posted the brief statement on Instagram.
The comment comes in response to a news portal report citing political analysts suggesting that Khairy’s political prospects remain linked to Umno, amid claims and speculation that he had sought to rejoin the party following his expulsion.
According to the report, Khairy’s appeal to return to Umno may have been driven by the view that no other party aligns closely with his political aspirations. It said that Khairy submitted a letter of appeal regarding his expulsion in January 2023 through his aide.
However, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the party had yet to receive the letter.
Khairy was expelled from Umno in January 2023 for breaching party discipline during the 15th General Election.
