GUA MUSANG: Nearly 1,000 Orang Asli residents of the Temiar tribe in the Pos Pasik Resettlement Scheme here are worried about the presence of three wild elephants that have been roaming around the village for almost a year.
Pos Pasik Resettlement Scheme Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee chairman Jimi Arifin said that the wild animals often appear in residential areas and are not afraid of human presence.
“Residents often encounter these wild elephants while on their way to drop off their children at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sri Permai.
“The three wild elephants are still in the nearby area and are causing problems around the village, putting pressure on us and disrupting our sleep because we have to stay vigilant.
“Recently the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) also came to monitor this village after a report was made,” he said when met by reporters at Pos Pasik here on Saturday (Sept 6). — Bernama
