PORT DICKSON: An elderly woman was killed early this morning when the car she was driving collided with a workers’ bus at a traffic light junction near Dataran Segar here.
District police chief Superintendent Maslan Udin said the crash occurred at 5.30am.
The bus was travelling from Port Dickson towards Seremban, while the car was heading from Dataran Segar towards Lukut.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by negligence, compounded by wet road conditions due to rain.
“The collision left the 69-year-old woman critically injured in the head. She later died while receiving treatment at the Port Dickson Hospital emergency ward. Her body has since been taken to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
“The 41-year-old bus driver escaped unhurt. However, checks revealed that he did not possess a valid driving licence. His urine test, however, returned negative for drugs,” he said in a statement.
Maslan added that both vehicles would be sent for inspection by Puspakom.
“Police will also review nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to assist the investigation, including determining which vehicle ran the red light during the incident,” he said.
The bus driver has been remanded to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“Police urge all road users to obey traffic regulations, particularly traffic lights, and ensure only those with valid driving licences operate vehicles,” he added.
