SHAH ALAM: Bersatu Srikandi must develop more candidates capable of representing the rakyat in parliament and state assemblies, says its chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
She said the women’s wing must start preparing for the next general election.
“We must ensure that more women candidates are brought forward. We must no longer be seen as quota fillers.
We must prove that women determine the winners, from the machinery to the leaders,” she said in her policy speech during the wing’s annual general meeting here on Saturday (Sept 6).
She said DAP is among the parties that have developed many women as leaders in Parliament.
“They were given opportunities and now their women are the faces of the party leadership. 25% of their MPs are women,” she said.
In Bersatu, however, Mas Ermieyati said she is currently the only female MP (Masjid Tanah) from the party.
“I don’t want to be the only female Bersatu MP in Parliament. We need more of you as well,” she added.
She also said a platform aimed at training, guiding, and developing Srikandi leaders must be established.
“This has been proposed to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. It is time to prove that Srikandi are not just helping in campaigns but are also able to be brave leaders,” she said.
