#SHOWBIZ: Raja Azura: I've passed the test as a single mother

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress and host Raja Azura, 52, affectionately known as Kak Engku, could not hold back her tears when her dream of seeing her children wear graduation robes finally came true.

She expressed her gratitude after her three children graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), calling it the most beautiful gift in her life as a single mother.

”Praise be to God, when I see my children succeed, all the sacrifices feel worth it. I think I passed the test as a single mother,” she told BH Online yesterday.

“No one supports me except for prayers to God, my mother, my cousin who is also my manager, and my immediate family.”

Raja Azura recently uploaded a photo of herself with her children: Megat Muhammad Raziq, 23; Megat Luqman Haqim, 22; and Puteri Mia Maizura, 20, all in their graduation gowns.

She explained that she had arranged the special photo session to capture this precious moment with her three children. She also invited her mother and aunt, who have been a constant source of support.

”Actually, Megat Muhammad Raziq graduated last year, Megat Luqman Hakim will graduate tomorrow (today), and Puteri Mia has only one semester left. So I thought it would be better to take the pictures now to create the most beautiful memories of my life,” she said.

The star of the drama series ‘Mat Despatch’ admitted that her children’s success came with various trials, especially financial challenges.

However, she believes that blessings always come to those who raise their children with a sincere heart.

”Sometimes I myself wonder where the money comes from to raise the three of them. I have never taken out a loan, and the children have never taken out a PTPTN loan. The truth is, I can’t afford it, but God has provided us with enough sustenance,” she said.

Since her divorce from Adzmin Osman, the son of former Kedah Chief Minister Tan Sri Osman Aroff, on Sept 28, 2010, Raja Azura has focused on raising her children without holding a grudge against her ex-husband.

”I have never thought about getting married again or looking for a replacement. For me, my intention is clearly only to raise my children as best as possible. By God, I have no grudge, I am just grateful to be given the strength to carry out this trust,” she said.

She added that her children’s success is a cure for all her exhaustion and proof that a mother’s prayers and sacrifices are never in vain.

”Praise be to God, I finally got to see them succeed. I want to frame this robe picture as a big portrait at home, so that every time I see it I know the sacrifice was not in vain,” she said.

Raja Azura hopes that her story can inspire other single mothers to persevere in raising their children without feeling inferior or giving up.
