Sivasangari squeezes past Tomoto in London


KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champion S. Sivasangari marched into the quarter-finals of the London Squash Classic with a win over Hong Kong’s Tomoto Ho yesterday.

The Malaysian world No. 8 won 11-7, 12-10 in 22 minutes against world No. 30 Tomoto, and will face England’s world No. 18 Jasmine Hutton next.

Hutton upset world No. 7 and fourth seed Tinnes Gilis of Belgium 6-11, 11-7, 11-5.

In men’s competition, world No. 12 Ng Eain Yow slogged past Qatar’s world No. 22 Abdulla Mohd Al-Tamimi 8-11, 12-10, 11-9 to reach the quarter-finals.

The Malaysian will battle world No. 5 Marwan El Shorbagy of England for a place in the semi-finals. Marwan defeated England’s Adrian Waller 11-5, 10-12, 11-3. Eain Yow lost to Marwan in their last four meetings.
