TUARAN: Five men were killed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in collided with a trailer lorry on Jalan Sulaman Gayang in front of the Malaysian Volunteer Department Training Centre here on Friday (Sept 5).

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said the five, aged in their 20s, were confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

“However, the identities of the victims have yet to be established, and their remains have been handed over to the police for further action,” it said in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the lorry driver was unharmed in the 2.09 pm accident.

The lorry and MPV were travelling in opposite directions and collided head-on, causing the MPV to veer onto the roadside.

Nine firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station, located 29km away, arrived at the scene at about 2.50pm. – Bernama
