TUMPAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 11 smuggled cattle worth more than RM100,000 from a lorry during an operation in Kampung Gelong Pasir on Wednesday.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said a team from the Ninth Battalion stopped the lorry at about noon after it was spotted passing through the area.
“Upon inspecting the lorry, the GOF personnel found 11 cattle at the back of the vehicle.
“The driver failed to produce valid documents related to the transfer of the animals for verification with the Veterinary Department,” he said.
He added that the livestock are believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand for distribution in the local market.
Nik Ros Azhan said the 60-year-old driver was acting as the deliveryman.
He added that the total value of the seizure, including the lorry, was estimated at RM113,000.
The cattle have been handed over to the Kelantan Veterinary Department for further action.
