
A total of 78,883 students who completed their pre-university studies have been offered places in public varsities to obtain their bachelor’s degrees, says the higher education ministry.
The ministry said this represented 71.8% of the total of 109,866 applicants who applied to further their studies in public universities through the UPUOnline system.
These students had graduated from matriculation, Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), the Asasi programme, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia, and diploma programmes.
“Overall, 1,132 bachelor’s degree programmes were being offered in this session. Their entrance to the various institutions is based on the principle of meritocracy,” it said in a statement.
Candidates who failed to get a spot may appeal again through UPUOnline until 5pm on Sept 14.
