A Bersatu leader has urged the party’s Supreme Council to investigate the allegations in an anonymous letter questioning the integrity of deputy president Hamzah Zainudin and the existence of a “broker” within the party.
Tasek Gelugor Bersatu chief Azmi Alang said the letter’s contents could not be dismissed as they touched on the integrity of the party’s leadership.
The Telok Tawar assemblyman also said the main issue was not who had authored the letter, but rather the claims it contained.
“We cannot outright reject the contents of this letter as it involves the party’s interests,” said Azmi.
“More speculation and accusations will emerge unless the Supreme Council investigates the allegations.
“Hamzah’s name will be cleared if the Supreme Council conducts an investigation and finds that the allegations are baseless.”
The letter alleged that Hamzah had sought to undermine Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin by fabricating claims of a leadership handover and spreading falsehoods to create division within the party.
The letter’s circulation comes just days before Bersatu’s general assembly at the IDCC Convention Centre in Shah Alam this weekend.
