KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 60 investigation papers were opened against politician between 2020 and July this year, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Out of these, she said, 41 cases have been classified as no further action (NFA).

She added that the figures were based on data from the Attorney -General’s Chambers (A-GC).

Azalina, however, said that unlike civil cases, criminal cases do not have a statute of limitation

“This means if new evidence or developments arise, further investigations and reviews can still be conducted,” she said in a written reply in Dewan Negara to Senator Hussin Ismail.

Hussin had inquired about the percentage of criminal cases involving politicians classified as NFA between 2020 and 2025, as well as the mechanisms or guidelines in place to ensure that NFA classification is not influenced by political interference.

In addressing concerns over political interference in the classification of NFA cases, Azalina said the A-GC has assured that all evidence submitted by the police is thoroughly examined without bias toward the individuals’ backgrounds.

“The evaluation process strictly adheres to facts, legal principles and the rule of law, upholding integrity, transparency and prosecutorial independence,” Azalina added.
