TAWAU: Police are tracing a woman believed to have delivered a speech containing seditious elements during the “Solidarity Justice for Zara” gathering at the Tawau Municipal Council Square over the weekend.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said they had received three reports from members of the public regarding the speech purportedly made on Sunday, which allegedly touched on the position of Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.
Jasmin said the suspect had been identified and several other witnesses had been called in to assist with the investigation.
He said the woman was among those given the opportunity to speak at the gathering.
“The speech was alleged to contain seditious elements against the Head of State and caused public unease. Police have opened an investigation paper on the matter.
“The cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Sections 506 and 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said when contacted today.
Zara Qairina Mahathir, a Form One student at a religious school in Papar, Sabah, who was believed to be a victim of bullying, was found unconscious on July 16 and pronounced dead the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
