KUALA LUMPUR: The Speedy Tigers thrashed Taiwan 15-0 in their final Group B match at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar, India, on Monday.

The win, their third in a row, confirmed their top spot in the Asia Cup and marked their biggest victory margin since national coach Sarjit Singh took charge in March of last year.

World No. 12 Malaysia have now advanced to the Super Four stage alongside and hosts India.

In earlier matches, they defeated Bangladesh and defending champions with identical 4-1 scores.

Malaysia’s goals against Taiwan were scored by Ashran Hamsani (eighth, 15th, 32nd, 54th minutes), Akhimullah Anuar Esook (10th, 20th, 29th, 45th, 56th), Norsyafiq Sumantri (20th, 40th, 60th), Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (22nd), Andywalfian Jeffreynus (24th) and Nik Aiman Nik Rozemi (32nd).

Sarjit said it felt good to win all three group matches convincingly ahead of the Super Four challenge.

“The players made full use of the chances today. I hope they can maintain the momentum for the Super Four.

“We have three players injured, and I hope they can recover in time for the Super Four.

“We will take one match at a time, and I hope my players can maintain consistency,” Sarjit said.

The Super Four matches are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
