KOTA KINABALU: Fledgling native-based Parti KDM has named its deputy president Datuk Wetrom Bahanda as its candidate for chief minister if the party wins the next state election.
KDM acting president Priscella Peter said the decision was reached at a supreme council meeting at the party’s headquarters in Penampang near here on Monday (Sept 1).
Wetrom is the Kota Marudu MP and Bandau assemblyman.
“We are pleased to announce that the KDM supreme council unanimously agreed to Wetrom as the Chief Minister candidate if the party succeeds in forming a government.
“This proposal came from KDM president Datuk Peter Anthony himself and we discussed and decided on it unanimously,” she said.
Peter, the Melalap assemblyman, was jailed three years for a fraud case involving forgery of a signature to obtain Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) contract for his company in 2014.
Priscella said KDM is ready to face the state election and has so far identified candidates for more than 40 seats to be contested.
