SEREMBAN, Sept 1 (Bernama) — The one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid received by a family of five here has helped ease their daily expenses for the next two months.
For recent university graduate Norsarah Hishamuddin, 28, from Tampin, the aid was especially meaningful as it enabled her to help her parents buy groceries.
Norsarah, along with her two younger siblings aged 25 and 20, and their parents, who are both educators, each received RM100, bringing the total to RM500 for the family.
“My siblings and I are not working yet, so at least this assistance helps our parents with daily essentials. I was thrilled to find out that the three of us were among the recipients of SARA. Hopefully, such aid will continue in the future,” she told Bernama.
Norsarah said such initiatives not only provide financial relief but also reflect the MADANI government’s genuine concern for the people’s well-being.
Meanwhile, checks by Bernama at several supermarkets in Johor found people taking advantage of the public holiday to buy essential goods with the cash aid.
Nor Hanida Md Yasin, 45, said she and her husband planned to redeem the aid in stages to better manage their monthly spending.
“With RM100, I can buy sugar, rice, cooking oil, sardines, condensed milk and many other things. It may not be much, but it helps us since some essentials are already covered.
“It was a little frustrating when the system was disrupted today, but we understand it’s probably because many were redeeming on the public holiday. So we plan to come back on a normal day,” said the Pulai Jaya resident.
For private sector worker S. Segar, 34, he had looked forward to redeeming the SARA aid for the first time to buy groceries today.
“I planned to buy two bags of rice, sugar, salt and biscuits, but since the system was down, we postponed it. Today, we used our own money and will redeem the SARA aid later.
“Still, thank you to the government for this thoughtful gesture and Merdeka gift,” said Segar, who works in Singapore.
The one-off aid involving a RM2 billion allocation was credited via MyKad yesterday, benefiting 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above.
