PUTRAJAYA: Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said the Gig Workers Bill 2025, which was passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday, is a special gift to all gig workers in conjunction with the 2025 National Day.
Sim expressed his appreciation to the gig workers for their support of the bill while mingling with the e-hailing and p-hailing teams who took part in the 2025 National Day parade this morning.
“This year’s National Day is particularly special because of the meaningful gift for all gig workers, the approval of the Gig Workers Bill 2025,” he said.
Sim added that the bill will provide total protection to gig workers, including their welfare, social security, and rights, as they are a crucial part of the country’s workforce. He wished the best of luck to the gig workers who were part of the Economy, Telecommunications, and Innovation for the People cluster and praised them for their patriotic spirit.
He was also seen paying his respects as the contingent passed the main stage. The Gig Workers Bill 2025 is scheduled to be tabled during the current session of the Dewan Negara before being gazetted and enforced to ensure the welfare and protection of gig workers in Malaysia.
