BENTONG: Three motorcyclists riding high-powered bikes lost control and skidded at Km43 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway yesterday, resulting in a crash.
Footage captured from the helmet camera of one of the riders showed the motorcyclist ahead falling off his machine whilst negotiating a bend along the stretch.
Upon stopping his motorbike by the roadside shoulder, he realised that a second motorcyclist had fallen off his bike, with the motorcycle crashing into the metal road barrier.
Moments later, a third rider suffered a similar fate.
However, the injuries sustained by the three riders could not be determined in the viral video which was uploaded on Instagram.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said in a statement today that police received a one-minute, 20-second video clip on social media regarding the accident involving three motorcycles.
“Investigations revealed the incident occurred about 9.45am yesterday (April 27). The high-powered bikers, believed to be part of a convoy, had lost control of their machines, slipped and skidded into the drain on the roadside shoulder.
“Police managed to track down one of the riders who sustained injuries to his right leg and are in the midst of identifying two others to provide their statement on the incident,” he said.
Zaiham said police were investigating the incident under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. If convicted, offenders can face a fine of up to RM10,000 and be liable to imprisonment for up to 12 months.
He urged witnesses with information on the accident to come forward to assist police investigations.
