SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained a boat for carrying excess passengers 0.15 nautical miles southeast of Sungai Lima, Pulau Ketam, at 6.15pm on Saturday (April 26).

Maritime director Captain (Maritime) Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the passenger boat, overloaded with 78 individuals, was stopped during a routine patrol by the MMEA vessel as part of the Mardof special operation in waters.

“A check of the boat found two men, a 60-year-old acting as the skipper and an 18-year-old crew member.

“The boat had committed several other offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952. These included violating licensing conditions, as both the license and insurance had expired, and making modifications that breached licensing requirements,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Abdul Muhaimin said the boat and the skipper were taken to the Marine police jetty at Pulau Indah before being handed over to the Selangor MMEA investigating officer for further action. – Bernama
