KUANTAN: The public need not worry, as the supply of chicken and eggs in the market remains sufficient and stable.
Federation of Livestock Farmers Association of Malaysia adviser Datuk Jeffrey Ng said no reports of shortages involving poultry and eggs had been received.
“So far, supplies remain stable and readily available in markets and supermarkets. We have not received any complaints from consumers regarding shortages.
“There are no issues…the supply is adequate,” he said when contacted today.
On the sales limit imposed on whole chickens, Ng said it was likely due to special promotional prices offered by certain retailers.
“Retailers may impose a purchase limit to ensure more customers have the opportunity to buy the chickens,” he added.
Meanwhile, a salesman from a local hypermarket chain here confirmed there were no issues with the supply of chicken and eggs.
“In fact, we have ordered additional stock in anticipation of the public holidays next week. So far, there have been no complaints of shortages or price hikes,” he said.
Earlier today, a poster announcing a sales limit on whole chickens had sparked public concern about a possible supply shortage.
