Govt Revises SAC, CAC Rates To Boost Corporate Green Electricity Access

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 (Bernama) — The government has revised the System Access Charge (SAC) and Community Access Charge (CAC) rates for the 4th Regulatory Period, in line with the implementation of a new, more transparent and progressive electricity tariff schedule.

SAC and CAC are access charges under the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (CREAM), introduced to further enhance corporate access to green electricity.

In a statement today, the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) said the new SAC and CAC rates have been reduced by up to 40 per cent compared to the previous values.

“These revised rates are expected to attract more corporate consumers to source their green electricity supply at more competitive costs,” it said.

Under the CRESS programme, the firm supply rate is set at 20 sen per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while the non-firm supply rate is 40 sen/kWh.

Meanwhile, the CREAM programme offers a uniform rate, with both firm and non-firm supply categories fixed at 9 sen/kWh.

The ministry said that it is confident these enhancements will facilitate greater access to green electricity for businesses, thereby supporting them in meeting their respective ESG commitments.

“This initiative will also support Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve 70 per cent renewable energy capacity in the national electricity supply by 2050, while upholding the nation’s responsibility to both present and future generations, in line with the core principles of Malaysia MADANI,” it said.
